En estos últimos años, el recurso del mash-up ha ido atrayendo cada vez más interés, como hijo bastardo de conceptos anteriores como el cover y el remix. Sin embargo, sus vertientes más habituales son la de mezclar hits del momento, o crear nuevas piezas a partir de pequeñas partecitas de una infinidad de temas. No es el caso de Federico Scally, rebautizado artísticamente como Alonso Morning.

Los temas de Alonso, en cambio, no apuntan a promocionar nuevos temas, ni a volver casi irreconocibles los orígenes de cada beat que reutilizan. En su caso, son pocos los temas preexistentes que usa para crear cada pieza, y no tienen nada de nuevo, sino que son, en su mayoría, grandes clásicos. No obstante, esto no disminuye la sorpresa que sentimos al escuchar su material. Con gran pericia, Alonso combina genialmente temas que todos conocemos, a menudo mezclando el rock internacional con los ritmos latinos, generando un resultado pegadizo, bailable, divertido y un poco kitsch, que logra satisfacer tanto a los oídos exigentes (o pretensiosos, como los nuestros) como a los no habituados al mash-up, tipo tu tía pasada de copas en un cumpleaños de quince.

Dénle una chance a Oldies but Gordies, un compilado de sus tres primeros álbumes inéditos (Alonso contra los Fantasmas, Manteca al Techno y Vibra la Patria) y a DO RE MI sin Frazada, su último trabajo, y la risa y el baile los sacudirán por meses con las insólitas combinaciones de Alonso Morning.  

These last few years, mash-ups have been garnering more and more attention, being some sort of bastard offspring of previous concepts such as cover versions and remixes. Usually, most mash-ups either combine recent hits or create new pieces using little bits of countless songs. None of these is the case of Federico Scally, the man behind the Alonso Morning moniker.

Unlike that, Alonso's work does not intend to experiment with new songs or render those little bits almost unrecognizable. Instead, he uses only a few existing songs for each of his pieces, and there is nothing new about them, since he uses mostly huge classics. However, the surprise we get when we listen to his work is not diminished by this in any way. Skillfully, Alonso combines songs we all know with amazing results, often putting together rock in english with latin rythms, resulting in catchy, fun, dance-oriented and campy tunes, that will please both demanding --or pretentious, as it is our case-- ears as well as those who are not adept to mash-ups, kind of like your aunt being a little tipsy at a family brithday party.

Give a try to Oldies but Gordies, a compilation of his first three unreleased albums --Alonso Contra Los Fantasmas, Manteca al Techno and Vibra La Patria-- and DO RE MI sin Frazada, his latest effort, and you'll be moved to laugh and dance for months with the impossible combinations of Alonso Morning.
